Q 1.02. Can I see print samples of your work? Can I see complete wedding sessions that you've done?

A. Absolutely. We always have print samples for the client to view during the consultation.

Complete wedding sessions can be viewed on our Clients page. We think that it's very important to view entire sessions (one or more complete, real weddings) when selecting a photographer, as opposed to highlights that have been assembled from multiple weddings.

However, we do not usually have multiple, entire wedding sessions printed for viewing at consultations. For this type of research, we encourage prospective clients to browse all of the current Online Viewing and Ordering Sites at their leisure. These sites include all Album Proof images from the wedding day (excludes Bonus Disc images) in a low resolution format that is well suited to online viewing.

Q 1.03. Why would I want two photographers to cover my wedding? Why are two photographers better than one?

A. Using two photographers allows us to cover your event in a more complete manner. It produces the style and quality of work for which we have become known.

Q 1.04. I like your style of photography, but I don't need as much coverage as your packages offer. Do you have a smaller wedding package?

A. The base package on our site is generally the smallest package we offer as the type of coverage we specialize in involves us being present during most of the day. As opposed to showing up during one or two parts of the event to get some posed pictures of the couple and family, we approach each wedding from the perspective of documenting the whole event. It is this practice that produces the style of photograph that can be seen throughout our work (see: Clients page).

When viewing our work from a full day wedding shoot, you can get a feel of the type of emotion that was prevalent during the event ("the participants seemed more serious than usual, or they were really excited, or extra relaxed", etc.). After viewing another client's complete session on our web site, our clients often tell us that they feel as if they know our past customers.

Our service is based on this - we always try to capture and document the emotion that is specific and unique to each event.

Q 1.05. What style of wedding photography do you prefer to shoot or consider to be your speciality? What style of photos do you usually deliver to clients?

A. We shoot documentary style photography. This style can generally go by many names - Documentary, Candid, Reportage and, perhaps the most abused term of them all, Photojournalistic. However it's defined, we prefer a "silent observer" style of shooting and feel that it is a technique that can produce some truly beautiful images, particularly for those couples that intend to just have fun, relax and enjoy the day.

Basically, this means that we try to limit interaction with the subjects to document events as they happen. To contrast this with traditional wedding photography, we rarely try to "control" a situation. Our intent is to use photography to record and illustrate the real story of the day, as opposed to playing the more traditional role of the photographer as director or supervisor.

In practical terms, this means that we try to limit the posed session to a few quick shots of the dignitaries (the family and bridal party). As for other photos throughout the day, our method and intent is not to "stage" or control a situation in an effort to capture specific pictures as can be seen on this web site. When covering a wedding, we try to capture the events of the day as they naturally unfold in an unnoticed and unobtrusive manner.

We have written an article entitled Styles of Contemporary Wedding Photography that can provide more detail on this subject.

Q 1.06. Do you use both film-based and digital cameras? Do you bring backup equipment?

A. We shoot weddings using all digital equipment. As of the time of this writing, we no longer offer coverge with conventional film-based equipment.

In case of technical difficulties during your wedding day, we bring a backup for every piece of equipment.

Q 1.07. What are Digital Negatives / Usage Rights? Why would I want this?

A. According to Federal Law, when a picture is taken, the person who took the photograph owns the image and holds legal copyright. Until these rights are granted to another party / person, it is illegal for anyone other than the person that took the photograph to print or otherwise reproduce the material in any way.

Purchase of Digital Negatives / Usage Rights gives that legal right to you. You receive a letter stating that you've purchased this option, along with the photographer's name, signature, and contact information. When you have the pictures developed, a photo lab will identify the material as "professional" and will require that you EITHER produce proof that you are the photographer of these pictures OR they will request that you show documentation stating usage permission before giving the prints to you. For liability reasons, many labs will also require a photocopy of this letter.

In the past, with film-based equipment, this would be the similar to buying the negatives (we therefore use the term "Digital Negatives" with this option, athough it is technically somewhat inaccurate). Also note that, in the contract that is signed when your booking is made, the photographer is specifically granted permission to use any photographs from your wedding for limited display purposes.
